Workshop on “Valuating intellectual property and technology transfer”

In two days of November 04- 05, 2010, in Hanoi Vietnam Office of Intellectual Property (VOIP) - Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) coordinated with ASEAN projects to protect Intellectual Property Rights (ECAP III) to organize the Workshop on &ldquo

Attending the Workshop were Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan, Head of European Mission to Vietnam – Ambassador Sean Doyle, Director of Vietnam National Office of Intellectual Property Tran Viet Hung, together with more than 50 Vietnamese participants.

Through the Workshop, Project ECAP III would raise awareness of the public on mechanism on valuating intellectual property and technology transfer. Promotion of intellectual property is as a tool for the economic development. Valuation of intellectual property and technology transfer contributes to encouraging investment, promoting S&T renovation and innovation; create motivations for developing the economics and S&T. Then more investments would be attracted in research and implementation.

Delivering a speech at the Workshop, Standing Deputy Minister Nguyen Quan said that Vietnam’s intellectual property activities have become more and more active and affirmed the role as an efficient tool to ensure the sustainable development of an economy. Valuation of intellectual property is the basis for series of important economic activities as technology transfer, selling and purchase, fund contribution, joint ventures, which assist enterprises to identify their real assets in order to create the basis for strategic policy-making on effective investment, business and manufacturing as well as financial management (auditing, accounting…).

As planned, in 2010 Project ECAP III is expected to implement about 30 activities in the whole ASEAN region, which are focused on improving knowledge and understanding on intellectual property implementation in border areas, supporting universities and research organizations in the formulation policies on intellectual property, and supporting services …

Project ECAP III will start from August 2010 and be implemented by the end of December 2013.
