Workshop on “The current situation of and solutions for combating trademark counterfeiting"

On the morning of November 28, 2018, the Vietnam Intellectual Property Research Institute (VIPRI) in cooperation with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA) held a workshop on "The current situation of and solutions for combating trademark counterfeiting".

Participating in the seminar were Mr. Osamu Ikemura, Director of Intellectual Property Department of Ajinomoto Group, JIPA member, JETRO experts as well as experts on intellectual property of some big companies in Japan (Ajinomoto, Sapporo, GS, Honda and Yonex). On the Vietnamese side, there were Mr. Nguyen Huu Can - Vice Director of VIPRI, representatives of the Ministry of Science and Technology, General Department of Customs, enforcement agencies, management agencies in some northern provinces, IP lawyers and  industrial property agents.

At the workshop, representatives of Japan and Vietnam presented the current situation of trademark counterfeiting in their countries and their experience of the combat against  trademark counterfeiting. Theu also discussed and exchanged ther views on how to clarify the economic losses caused by counterfeiting trademarks, how to calculate the direct loss caused by the trademark infringement in various industries, including the pharmaceutical industry of Vietnam and proposed some solutions to limit the losses.
