Thousands of fake products bearing famous brands are seized at the Ninh Hiep wholesale market

Nearly 3,000 fake products of all kinds such as watches, eyeglasses, clothes bearing famous brands such as Hublot, Dior, Gucci ...were seized by MMT No.14 of Hanoi Market Surveillance Department at Ninh Hiep market on the morning of July 4, 2019.

Carrying out a series of specialized inspections under the direction of the Director General of  Vietnam Directorate of Market Surveillance (VDMS) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), the Market Management Team (MMT) No.14 of the Hanoi Market Surveillance Department suddenly checked  07 large business establishments at Ninh Hiep, Gia Lam market in  Hanoi - one of the largest wholesale markets in the North Vietnam. At the time of inspection, the team discovered and seized 2,670 fake eyeglasses, watches, clothes... branded Dior, Chanel, Gucci, Hublot, Nike, Adidas, Louis Vuiton etc.

"Every day, we export to the market thousands of products like this", a representative of clothing business in Ninh Hiep market declared. A Christian Dior shirt costs only VND60,000 (equivalent to about US$2.80). Meanwhile, according to Samantha NG - Senior Manager of Protection of LVMH Group's brand of leather and fashion products in Asia, a genuine Christian Dior branded shirt costs around EUR600 (equivalent to about VND15 millions).

Not only fashion items, at Ninh Hiep market, fake watches are sold in kilograms. The price of one kilogram of watches, for all kinds, ranges between several hundred to over VND1 million/kg. That is,  the price of a watch would fluctuate in a few dozen to under VND100,000/piece. Meanwhile, the average price of a genuine Hublot brand watch costs around EUR17,000, Zenith watches cost about EUR8,000 Eur and Tag Heuer watches cost about EUR2,300.

According to Mr. Duong Ngoc Vien, Captain of the MMT No.14 of Hanoi Market Surveillance Department, with the aboved number of infringing goods seized at 07 shops, the value of administrative punishment is estimated at over VND300 million. The total value of infringing goods forced to destroy is estimated at over VND1 billion.

"Small businesses in all places often come these markets  to import goods and sell to low-income people, who like to use branded goods but do not have sufficient economic conditions to own genuine products." Mr. Duong Ngoc Vien added.

In the coming time, the VDMS will continue to check all fashion items in the whole country./.
