Pham & Associates’ managing director took part in the meeting between Vice Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and the National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP), taking place September 29 in Hanoi.

On Thursday, September 29, Mr. Pham Vu Khanh Toan was panelists for a discussion of “Current Issues in Intellectual Property Regulation.”

At the meeting, Mr. Tran Viet Thanh, the Director of NOIP presented that “the NOIP is being overloaded due to a sharp increase in the number of applications, approximately 10% a year. In the period of 2011-2015, the Office received 390,876 various applications, settled 338,387, and remained over 50,000 to be done. The main cause of situation is that where the number of applications are increasing, the procedures and many manpower schemes fail completely or do not reach their full potential.

In the coming time, the Vice Prime Minister requested that the NOIP has to review the current procedures, to apply the experience and the results of substantive examination from developed countries. The Vice Prime Minister also attached special importance to the implementation of a computerized application for IP management, aiming to shorten examination time, transparency in proceedings “First come, first serve, and it is easy for the applicants to see what actions are performed.” he said.
