Key IP News in Vietnam – May & June 2025

1. Launch of Electronic Copies and Certifications for IP Documents

- On June 6, 2025, the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (IP Vietnam) officially began issuing electronically certified copies of IP-related documents.

- These include: patent, trademark, and industrial design applications; certificates of IP rights; and related official notifications and decisions.

- This move supports Vietnam’s national digital transformation program, helping reduce administrative costs, save time, and increase legal certainty in IP transactions.

2. Extension of Vietnam–Korea PPH Program (2025–2028)

- On June 1, 2025, IP Vietnam and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) extended their Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) cooperation until 2028.

- Each office will accept up to 100 PPH requests annually from the other side.

- This program accelerates patent examination processes and promotes international IP protection and technology commercialization.

3. Summary

In May and June 2025, Vietnam saw two notable developments in IP enforcement and administration:

• The launch of a national electronic certification system for IP documents;

• The renewal of international cooperation in patent examination through the Vietnam–Korea PPH program.

These measures aim to modernize Vietnam’s IP infrastructure, streamline legal processes, and support both domestic and foreign applicants.
