Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung, Standing Deputy Chairman of the National Steering Committee 389 has just signed and sent an official document to the Steering Committee 389 of provinces and centrally-run cities on intensifying the fight against infringements of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).

The document points out that recently, the production and trading of fake goods, poor quality products and pirated merchandise in violation of IPR have been on the rise nationwide. Many IPR infringement cases are of large scale and systematic violations but have not been detected in time and dealt with thoroughly.

Under such circumstances, on October 12, 1818, 1st Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh has instructed the ministries, branches and National Steering 389 to enhance the fight against IPR infringements by intensifying the detection, prevention and the handling of counterfeit and pirated goods manufactured or circulated on the market.

In order to seriously implement the guiding opinion of the 1st Deputy Prime Minister, the National Steering Committee 389 requests the Steering Committee of 389 of provinces and centrally-run cities to speed up propaganda and education efforts within resident and consumer communities to raise their awareness of the harmful effects of buying, selling and consuming of fake goods, poor quality products and IPR infringing merchandise.

The committees must take the lead in detecting and denouncing acts of producing and / or trading of fake goods, poor-quality products or IPR infringing goods. Also, they must take initiative in reviewing legal documents on counterfeit goods, poor quality products and IPR infringing merchandise as well as international treaties of which Vietnam is a member to see if there are loopholes or something missing so as to propose proper amendments and supplements accordingly.
