On November 17th 2017 the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the International Trademark Association (INTA) announced the results of two years of implementing “The famous trademark protection project of Vietnam”. There are 8 brands involved in this project, including 5 domestic brands and 3 foreign brands. After reviewing the well-known mark criteria, the organizers selected and recognized 6 well-known brands, namely Vinamilk, IKEA, Vinacafe, Nike, Petrolimex and Pham & Associates.
The organizers give the well-known trademark certification to the business representatives.
The famous trademark protection project of Vietnam is in the framework of the MoU signed by MOST and INTA signed in March 2015. The project board has five criteria for evaluating the mark, including (i) 1. The number of relevant consumers who were aware of the mark by purchase or use of goods or services bearing the mark, or from advertising; (ii) the time, scale and geographic area of any use, promotion of the brand image; (iii) the time and geographic area in which the mark was registered or was filed; (iv) Turnover of the sale of goods/ provision of services bearing the mark or the quantity of goods sold or services provided ; and (v) the values associated with the trademark.
Nguyen Nhu Quynh, Deputy Chief Inspector of MOST said “this project has helped organizations and individuals to have the most comprehensive view on the protection of well-known trademarks in Vietnam” and “based on the project’s results enterprises can evaluate themselves the existing status of their brands, whether they are well-known
